Hogarth Primary SchoolConfident

Welcome toHogarth Primary SchoolCONFIDENT

Aims and Ethos

At Hogarth Primary School, we believe in 9 principles that underpin everything that we do. Our aim is to inspire CONFIDENT children who...

C   CHALLENGE themselves to reach their full potential

Through active participation in learning and the use of individual, class and school competitions, children are continuously encouraged to challenge themselves to reach their full potential. We have competitions for different areas of the curriculum, such as a termly Project Professor Award for topic and a weekly Times Table Test and Spelling Bee Competitions. Children can earn certificates, badges and a trophy at their own, individual pace whilst continuously ensuring progress.

O   Take OWNERSHIP of their learning

Through praising individual achievements in class and within whole school assemblies, children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning. Children can earn certificates for attendance, curriculum achievements and extra-curricular sporting and music participation. We have a weekly ‘Star of the Week’ in each class and a termly ‘Headteacher’s Award’. Children work extremely hard, with a ‘heads down’ approach and with great pride.

N   NURTURE and care for each other’s wellbeing

We hold well-planned and resourced SMSC lessons and a weekly whole class SMSC assembly, whereby children are encouraged to communicate effectively with classmates and other children in the school. We care for each other’s wellbeing and show this through our daily interactions, for instance, Upper Key Stage Two children take on the responsibility of play mentors and promote positive play within our lower school playground at break times (COVID permitting).

F   Feel they are part of a FAMILY

Hogarth Primary School is a wonderful place to be. We all treat each other like one big family and we believe it is of vital importance that every child (and staff member!) feels loved and part of a special community. We celebrate individual, class and whole school achievements and we provide help and support where it is needed. This is a place where you are welcomed with a smile and a listening ear!

I   Are INDEPENDENT and prepared to take responsibility

Children are positively encouraged to be independent and take responsibility for their actions and there are many opportunities for this- the school council, Eco Warriors, subject ambassadors and pupil voice questionnaires. We are fortunate to have weekly forest school sessions, which develop independence and critical thinking skills as well as communication with other members of the class.

D   DREAM of greatness

We enjoy encouraging and striving for the children to be ambitious by the use of role models and special visitors to the school. We have regular opportunities for children to be involved in curriculum enhancing workshops both in school and in the local area- such as writing workshops with book authors, skipping sessions with high-level sport competitors, assemblies with professional scientists and engineers, and so much more.

E   ENCOURAGE success

The children at Hogarth are given a variety of opportunities to encourage success. We have a magnificent school choir who regularly showcase their wonderful voices at events such as The Young Voices competition and Light Up Brentwood and every child in Key Stage Two has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. We are also fortunate to have a team of specialised teachers in different fields including Music, PE, French and Computing. We feel this allows the child to develop a variety of skills which will make them successful in accomplishing their dreams for the future.

  Will NEVER feel left out

Here at Hogarth we ensure that all our lessons, activities and playtimes are inclusive and engaging for all. We are trained to adapt our teaching styles and communication to suit the needs of each individual and unique child, ensuring that no child feels left out. We use a range of strategies, such as playground buddies and nurture dogs to help children to be as confident as they can be!

T   THINK learning is fun!

One of our main focuses as a school is ensuring that children enjoy learning and want to engage with the lessons and activities. We encourage lots of practical elements within our lessons and we are fortunate to have wonderful facilities around the school that the children can use. We believe in a creative curriculum which incorporates all national curriculum objectives whilst being cross curricular, practical and engaging.
