Homework

Homework

Every Friday, the children will be given a paper copy of their homework to help with their learning. Spellings and times tables will be tested on the next Friday. It is also encouraged that the children log onto Times Table Rockstars to practice their times tables.

Spellings

Please do encourage the children to practice frequently.

  • Look, Write, Cover, Check
  • Putting spellings in sentences
  • Daily Practice

Spelling Bee: A whole school competition. The class who shows the greatest improvement to their scores each week wins! The children are tested every Friday. Please see the Spelling Bee words attached below. This is optional practice if your child would like a head start to improve their score.

Times Tables Rockstars!

Please make sure your child is using our ‘Times tables Rockstars’ platform to practice their times tables. Remember this should be at least an hour per week but they do not need to complete this hour in one go. There is also a competition each week between classes for the highest percentage of children logging on. Your child's log in details are in their reading diaries.

Here are some helpful links to some times table songs to support the children's understanding:

Reading books

Every Friday, the children will be given a new reading book, which will be due back in school the following Friday.

Please read with your child, preferably at least 3 times a week, and write a comment in their reading diary. Those children who continue to do so will be rewarded at the end of the term. Daily practice with an adult can increase their enthusiasm and help them progress even further. It is also very useful to discuss the books they have read to you to help their reading comprehension. We have put some question suggestions in the back of your child’s home reading diary. At Hogarth we have a policy that states all children should have at least 3 signatures in their diaries per week.
