Summer Term 1

Our topic this half term is ‘Over In The Meadow’. where we will be learning about minibeasts. Our work will be based around the following books: Superworm, (Julia Donaldson), The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Eric Carle), What the Ladybird Heard (Julia Donaldson) and The Very Busy Spider (Eric Carle). We will be learning about the minibeasts featured in the stories and observing our own real caterpillars as they turn into Butterflies. Please see our topic web for more information and let us know if you are able to contribute in any way.

Phonics

This half term we will be using all the sounds we have learnt so far to continue to practice blending (putting sounds together to read words) and segmenting (breaking words into sounds to write & spell). When writing with your child at home, please help them to use their phonic knowledge (eg. “what sounds do you think you need to write that?”) and encourage them to read back to you what they have written.

Home Reading
The children will continue to bring home a reading scheme book each week and these are changed on a Friday. Please try to read together daily (or at least 3 times a week minimum) and record their responses/sign their reading diary. You can also write in their diary if they read books from home or the local library. If your child reads at least 3 times at home they will get a gold star in their reading diary and on our reading chart. Please ensure your child brings in their reading diary and reading book every day as we read with different children on different days.

PE
PE is on Tuesdays. Please do not send your child to school with earrings or jewellery on this day. Please ensure your child has their PE kit on their peg and all items are named clearly.

Recycling
The children are loving making models in the sticking area. We would welcome any recycling/empty boxes for the children to make models with, and any items we could use in our role play shop.

Thank you.
Please do come and see us if you have any queries or concerns.

Having Fun At School

DB Primary

See below for details of our remote learning platform- DB Primary

In the event of Remote Learning, we will  use DB Primary: hogarth.essex.dbprimary.com

The children will be issued with a username and password t It is important that children keep their username and password safe and that they do not share it with friends or family.

Once your child has logged into DB Primary they will be able to see their class homepage and the work that has been set for them.

As part of the DB Primary platform, your child will be able to use a forum to keep in touch with their friends and teachers. Please discuss the safety implications of this with your child:

  • Anything your child puts onto DB Primary can be seen by members of staff.
  • Sensible behaviour must be used when accessing the blogs or forums
  • Make sure that any pictures you upload (profile picture, or pictures in posts) are suitable for a school audience
  • Be kind when leaving comments on others’ work
  • DB Primary has an automatic profanity filter, which is designed to block any inappropriate language, which also includes ambiguous words such as ‘hate’.
  • All messages can be reviewed, checked and traced to the sender.
  • Teachers can block the message sending option if they think it necessary.
  • Any inappropriate content can be reported to staff at the school by clicking on the whistle icon.

We hope that having access to DB Primary will be a helpful way in which you can support your child at home and that children can begin to take responsibility for furthering their own learning independently.
